The 2014 Volkswagen Passat is the largest passenger car in the Volkswagen line-up. It has all the refinements and technology expected of a sophisticated German vehicle, but is now built in the USA specifically for the North American driver. For the 2014 Volkswagen Passat, the big news was a new 1.8T four-cylinder engine will be gradually replacing the 2.5-liter. Also, a rear-view camera was added as standard to SE and up trims.

The 2014 Volkswagen Passat is offered as a front-wheel drive four-door sedan with four engine choices; a 170-hp, 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder, a 170-hp, 1.8-liter turbo four-cylinder, a 140-hp, 2.0-liter TDI diesel four-cylinder, and a 280-hp 3.6-liter VR6. Numerous transmissions are available; a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic with the 2.5L, a six-speed auto with the 1.8T, a six-speed manual or six-speed DSG with the TDI, and a six-speed DSG is standard with the VR6. Standard safety features include six airbags, four-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring, engine immobilizer and an intelligent crash response system that unlocks all doors, shuts off fuel and electrical supply and turns on the hazard lights. Standard creature comfort features include front and rear center armrests, trip computer, key-less entry, automatic headlights with coming home function, cruise control and Bluetooth phone connectivity.

Volkswagen XL Sport brings high-performance fuel-sipping to Paris

Just over one year ago, we reported on rumors that Volkswagen was pairing with its then-new corporate cousin, Italian motorcycle maker Ducati, to build a high-performance version of the XL1, a vehicle that we (actually, I) said would be a “firecracker,” thanks to its super-low curb weight, slippery aerodynamics and alleged 190-horsepower engine. Now, only slightly late for its rumored Geneva Motor Show debut, VW is trotting out the so-called XL Sport to the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

Total output has jumped to 197 horsepower, thanks to the presence of a Ducati 1199 Superleggera V-twin, which has been mated up to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In addition to screaming its way to 11,000 rpm, the two-cylinder engine will help the XL Sport zip to 62 miles per hour in a brisk 5.8 seconds before reaching a top speed of 168 miles per hour.

168 mph is a lofty speed for a 200-hp vehicle, and it wouldn’t be possible without VW’s obsessive streamlining of the XL Sport’s body.

That’s a lofty speed for a 200-horsepower vehicle, and it wouldn’t be possible without VW’s obsessive streamlining of the XL Sport’s body. Featuring a 0.258 coefficient of drag, it’s not as efficient as the standard XL1’s 0.189, thanks to the presence of wider tires, increased downforce and additional cooling ducts. Still, the XL is sleek enough for VW to claim the title of most aerodynamic sports car.

A pushrod rear suspension and forged magnesium wheels are just a few of the race-minded items underpinning the XL Sport, indicating that on top of being a quick little scamp, it should prove a capable dancer.

While Volkswagen is planning on building 250 XL1s, at this point there’s no indication that the XL Sport will be sold to the public. We’re guessing that question could depend on the public’s reaction to the unique sportster when it makes its debut in the coming days at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

Scroll down for the full press release from Volkswagen, and then head into the gallery and take a closer look at the XL Sport.

2015 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA EARNS TOP SAFETY PICK+ RATING FROM THE INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY

Herndon, VA – (September 18,2014) The redesigned 2015 Jetta, when equipped with the optional Forward  Collision Warning system, has been named a 2014 TOP SAFETY PICK+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The 2015 Jetta offers a combination of both passive and active systems and has been engineered to meet or exceed current crash regulations. The Jetta features a number of available driver assistance systems, including Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert and Forward Collision Warning.

Blind Spot Monitor. This system utilizes a flashing symbol in the outer area of the side mirrors to help alert the driver to vehicles that are in the vehicle’s blind spot or approaching from the rear. This is intended to help improve driver awareness when changing lanes. The system uses radar sensors to “monitor” a space around the vehicle with a range of approximately 65 feet. Customers who choose the Blind Spot Monitor option automatically get the Rear Traffic Alert assistance system as well.

Rear Traffic Alert. The new driver assistance system is offered in tandem with Blind Spot Monitor. The system not only helps alert the driver to stationary and moving vehicles directly behind the vehicle; it also detects vehicles approaching from the side which may be difficult for the driver to see. The radar-based sensor module can even detect objects up to 65 feet away. In case of an impending collision, the system gives an acoustic warning.

Forward Collision Warning. This system uses radar sensors to monitor the distance from traffic ahead of the vehicle. The Forward Collision Warning system helps alert the driver of critical front-end collision situations, both acoustically and visually by a clear warning symbol in the instrument cluster. The radar sensor acquires both the position of stationary cars and motorcycles and those moving in the same direction as the vehicle. The sensor is hidden behind the VW logo on the radiator grille.

All Jetta models are equipped with standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC), six airbags, Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA).

“The redesigned 2015 Volkswagen Jetta not only brings a sleek new design but also offers customers state-of-the-art technology, creating the ideal combination of Volkswagen design, performance, and world-class engineering,” said Mark McNabb, Chief Operating Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “To have IIHS recognize the vehicle as a Top Safety Pick + confirms that our commitment to safety and engineering pays off in delivering a standout compact vehicle.”

The 2015 Jetta is already on sale in U.S. dealerships. The lineup will offer three gasoline engines, a TDI Clean Diesel, and a hybrid powertrain, as well as four trim levels—Base, S, SE, and SEL.

The Driver Assistance Package is available on select Jetta models, and includes the Forward Collision Warning system. “Top Safety Pick+” is based on good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, head restraint tests; no less than an acceptable rating in the small overlap front test; and at least a basic rating for front crash prevention. A Heavy Hearted Farewell to the Volkswagen Eos

eos_blog

The Volkswagen Eos was introduced in 2007 as the successor of the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet. The Volkswagen Eos made its first debut at the 2006 Detroit auto show. The Volkswagen Eos is a four-seat, two-door, couple convertible with a retractable 5-fold hardtop, with a sunroof, making the Volkswagen Eos a unicorn of sorts. The Volkswagen Eos’s name was derived from the Greek Goddess of sunrise, Eos.

The Volkswagen Eos has had a great eight year run, however Volkswagen has announced that the 2015 VW Eos is the end of the chapter for this peppy, stylish, and sleek little car. This may be goodbye for the Volkswagen Eos, but it is certainly leaving with a bang. The latest and greatest 2015 Volkswagen Eos has eighteen inch Vicenza wheels, Cornsilk Beige and two-toned Vienna leather seating, contrast stitching, silver net interior trim, and a rear view camera—just to name a few of the features you’ll find on the 2015 Volkswagen Eos.
